MiniMax releases M2.7 — available now, built partly using itself

MiniMax released its M2.7 model, available now at agent.minimax.io. The company says the model was partly built using itself — a self-bootstrapping development process where earlier M2.7 iterations assisted in the model's own development pipeline.

MiniMax's M2.5 (February 2026) dropped frontier AI costs by up to 95% and ranked first among open-weight systems on multiple benchmarks. M2.7 is the next iteration with no announced benchmark comparisons yet. The self-bootstrapping framing is notable if verifiable — models contributing meaningfully to their own training pipelines represents a step in automated AI development. For teams already running MiniMax models for agentic workloads, M2.7 is available now. Performance comparison against M2.5 and frontier models will follow from third-party evaluations.
