Midjourney V8 community beta is live — 5x faster than V7, native 2K resolution

Midjourney started community beta testing of V8 on March 17. The model runs at 5x the speed of V7 and introduces native 2K resolution output modes. Midjourney says V8 delivers its best prompt adherence, text rendering, personalization (sref), and moodboard performance to date. The beta is open to Midjourney's existing community.

V7 was Midjourney's first complete architecture overhaul, launching April 2025. V8 arriving less than a year later signals an accelerated release cadence. The 5x speed improvement is practically significant — faster generation changes how quickly design workflows can iterate. But the prompt adherence improvement is the more consequential upgrade: reducing the gap between what you ask for and what you get is where most image generation workflows break down in production use.
