What Happened

Cursor is now available inside IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, and other JetBrains IDEs through the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). Developers install the Cursor ACP from the JetBrains AI chat and authenticate with an existing Cursor account. The integration brings Cursor's full model access — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Cursor's own models — into JetBrains' environment, with secure codebase indexing and semantic search. Available free to all users on paid Cursor plans.

Why It Matters

JetBrains IDEs dominate enterprise Java and multilanguage development — IntelliJ is the standard environment for most backend and platform engineering teams. Cursor was previously a VS Code story. This integration expands Cursor's reach to a segment that hasn't been switching editors and wasn't going to.
